Nir Shemmer was raised in the coastal town of Ostend (Belgium). He picked up the guitar in his early teens and was inspired to play by music of the early seventies such as James Taylor, Jackson Browne. In late spring of 2020 he finally teamed up with longtime friend and very talented musician Thomas Decock to record his first single "Shaky Ground". Recorded at Studio Ledeberg in Ghent and inspired by contemporary artists such as Jeff Tweedy, Ben Harper, Lukas Nelson and the Promise Of The Real and Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit, “Shaky Ground" deals with feelings of desperation and hope with seeing a partner struggle with mental health issues. In 2021 two more singles 'I Don't Know Just Why' and 'Without It' were recorded at Studio Ledeberg and subsequently released. In February of 2022 Nir was selected to participate in the prestigious Belgian music competition 'Humo's Rock Rally', armed with a five piece live band the performance was well received sparking a series of live shows in the summer in and around Ostend.
The new single 'Eight Miles High', a dark and disturbing tale written as a confession, told from the perspective of a war criminal, shows Nir's music is evolving with forays into jazz blues with a rootsy undertone.
